Cultural Note

Ìdẹ́ means "bond" in Yorùbá. One example of this is in the context of Ìbejì (twins), the word Ìdẹ emphasizes the strong, unbreakable bond and unity they share. Traditionally in Yorùbá culture beaded jewelry worn on the wrist or ankle is used to represent a bond of spiritual or cultural significance

These Ìdẹ́fá represent a practitioner's connection or initiation to Ìfá or specifically the òrìṣà Ọ̀rúnmìlà. Traditionally a person will receive Ìdẹ́fá from a Babaláwo or Ìyánífá (initiated priest). Ìdẹ́fá are often consecrated in rituals and ceremonies. Ìdẹ́fá, are known to provide protection against sickness, attraction of good luck, wealth, children, health, stability, long life, success and peace of mind, return of lost things.
