MBONGI HOLDING SPACE© A JOURNALING WORKSHOP IN COMMUNITY (AUGUST 9TH)
Join us for a Mbongi journaling workshop by Michael "Kwaku" Roosevelt and Dr. Tony "Heru" Jackson.
Mbongi Holding Space©: A “New” Journal for Self-Healing/Ngolo an African Descendant and Ascendant People
The imperative to engage in Sankofa, a return to African cultural practices and beliefs, cannot be overlooked. As Dr. Wade Nobles asserts, our path to restoration and healing necessitates a critique of our current state, a reclamation of our culture, and a fresh, dynamic approach to overcome the challenges. In this endeavor, the role of journaling holds substantial value. It is a crucial component in the processes of reclamation, restoration, and healing.
African individuals can utilize journaling as a catalyst to ignite their self-healing, or Ngolo, potential and fortify their resistance. The interactive session aims to present and introduce the "Mbongi Holding Space Journal©," as a restorative practice for growth. It is a mechanism for healing from the damaging effects of trauma, racial discrimination, and mental illness. Furthermore, beyond its function in promoting individual growth, journaling is a powerful medium that can be utilized collectively in communities.
Our time together will be bifurcated into two segments. The initial part provides an overview of a framework for African-centered journaling. The subsequent part serves as an interactive opportunity to engage in journaling and pose queries.
