Myrrh offers an invocation of the sacred, helping to clear the mind, strengthen spiritual connection, and reduce stress. Kemetic (Ancient Egyptian) tradition offers to us the burning of myrrh for protection and in rituals to cleanse ourselves and our spaces of negative energies.

Cultural Note

Since ancient times, myrrh resin has been used as an ingredient in incense, perfumes, and medicinal formulas. With its origins in East Africa, it has been used to anoint kings and holy objects. Myrrh gum resin is harvested from Commiphora myrrha, a low growing, desert tree that exudes a viscous yellow gum, which hardens into a reddish-brown resin

Usage

• Put a charcoal tablet in a heat resistant incense burner and light it. Wait 5–15 minutes for the charcoal to reach the right temperature, as indicated by a layer of ash forming on the tablet. 
• Then, add a small amount of resin on top of the hot charcoal. It is recommended to begin with just 1 piece to see how much smoke is created before adding more. The resin and dust will melt and burn, creating fragrant smoke. 
• Repeat as desired until the charcoal is done.
